After an exciting race, the Fairbanks, owned and driven by A. H. Davies won the inaugural Motor-boat Championship of Australia. She had only the Knoxpotz against her. At the word “go” she dashed to the front and was never caught, though during the contest she had to stop owing to a leaky pump.

Fairbanks was powered by an engine called Fairbanks-Morse from America, she had a displacement hull with a round bilge.

'Despugols' built by Charles Henry Brasier of France is an identical boat to 'Kangaroo' Owner and Driver Tony Horden

The Motor-boat Champion of Australia is Anthony Hordern’s new hydroplane the ‘Kangaroo’ (90 hp and 26ft in length). The championship was contested over a course from Rose Bay to Manly and back (about nine miles). The competitors were the Kangaroo and Fairbanks (30-40 horse power), and the Kangaroo won easily in 20 min 34 1-5 sec. The Fairbanks took 25 min. 27 2-5 sec.
Anthony Horden imported his Single Step Hydroplane ‘Kangaroo’ from France around 1909 built by the famous Charles Henry Brasier.
